These are three great options you can choose from to help support men's health this Movember.

Movember is here and it is time to start the conversation regarding men's health and helping raise awareness of men's health issues, like prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's mental health concerns.

As horrible as it may be, 60 men die every hour from suicide. Men make up 75% of suicides and this alarming statistic can be reduced if we get on board and support great foundations like The Movember Foundation.

Founded in 2003 they have spent that last 15 years dedicated to changing the health and wellbeing of men for the better.

"By 2030 we’ll reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%."  - The Movember Foundation.

What they stand for:

Improving quality of life for those with prostate or testicular cancer.

Helping more men take action: Men are dying earlier than women and most of the reasons why are preventable.

Their end goal? Having an everlasting impact on the face of men's health.

Here are their simple steps towards a healthier future

  1. Make man time

  2. Have open conversations

  3. Know the numbers

  4. Know thy nuts. Simple.

  5. Move more

Ask for help. Did you know that 70% of men say that they will always be there for their mates, but that 48% say they rely on their mates. Don't be afraid to reach out. It saves lives!

This month get on board with all aspects of men's health and sign up to Movember.

They have covered all bases this year and provided a range of ways that everybody can get involved:

  1. Grow a Mo and raise funds for your efforts! Make it fun, challenge a friend and see just how intense your moustache will turn out by the end of the month. Remember, no cheating! Always start with a clean shaved slate.

  2. Walk or run 60 kilometres throughout the month of November. The 60km's comes from the 60 men that die every hour due to suicide.

  3. Host an event at work: This is a great way to share awareness, begin the conversation and to educate everyone on how important men's health is.

 A few ideas for your workplace and Movember:

  1. Get the conversation started with a healthy lunch spread and a learning opportunity about men's health. Get people to sign up for one of the three options; grow, move or host.

  2. Shave off to start the month: Gather everyone around, set up a few chairs and some plastic bags and get shaving. This is not only a great laugh to boost morale, but it is a great way to get more people involved and donating.

  3. Post progress pictures on a notice board and allow bragging rights and prizes for the best mo’s or movement challenges.

  4. Price match the donations. As a company this will most likely be claimable on tax, so get out your cheque books and match the donations people are raising.

  5. Host a pub quiz about men's health using statistics from the Movember website. This is a great way to educate your staff about men's health whilst still keeping it fun and entertaining. Ask for a small fee to attend that becomes a donation to the cause.
